Rules and Regulations 

All submissions must conform to the following criteria:

-       the work must be an original work by the submitter, or the submitter has written, legal permission to submit the work on behalf of the original composer or composers.

-       the work must be an original work by the submitter, or the submitter has written, legal permission to submit the work on behalf of the original composer or composers

-       the work must be intended for performance by a cappella ensemble

-       (for contest ending June 15th 2008) submissions may have been composed and completed at any time, for any purpose.

-       (for contest ending September 15th 2008) submissions have been composed or completed ONLY between June 15th and September 15th, 2008.

-       the audio recording of the work, and included sheet music, must not be owned by or licensed to any other party, and submitter acknowledges that they grant usage rights to the organizer of this contest, as listed below (see Usage Rights)

 

All submissions must include:

-       recorded audio of the song submission, in mp3 format, with the official entry title of the song as the song title, with no spaces between words (ex. Song Title: “My Gnarly Song,” mp3 file must be titled “mygnarlysong.mp3” or “MyGnarlySong.mp3”)

-       sheet music, full score or lead sheet, in pdf format, with official song title and submitter’s name and contact information at the top of the page.

-       complete and accurate contact information

Submitted audio may be recorded by others, so long as the submitter has authority to use the recorded voices for submission and possible broadcast.

 

Usage Rights

By submitting your song, you agree to allow the contest organizers (Vocality Music Company, Mister Tim, moosebutter music group, and affiliates) to:

-       make copies of your song to allow distribution to judges and for contest purposes

-       use your song and song materials, including song titles, composer information, audio excerpts, and graphical representation of sheet music or lyrics, in connection with this and future A Cappella Originals Songwriting contests

-       include your submission, in whole or in part, in podcasts, advertising materials, and other promotional uses, so long as the contest organizers do not profit financially from your submission.

 

Your submission will not be published in any way, used for profit, or disseminated beyond reasonable amounts, other than as listed above, unless separate arrangements are made, in writing, between you and the contest organizers.  This includes submissions to compilation CDs, contracts with producers or private licensing parties, or any other use that may result in financial profit, or that might under other legal areas require additional contract.

Prizes and Awards

-       all prizes and awards will be granted at the discretion of the contest organizers and contest judges

-       each contest round will have a minimum of one first prize winner

-       total cash prize is dependent on number of entries per contest, but shall not be less than 50% of all entry fees collected per round of contest

-       all other awards will be granted according to merit of entries, specific interest of judges, and availability of prizes and / or cash

-       all cash prizes will be sent via paypal account ONLY

-       other prizes may include, but are not limited to: professional songwriting consultation, radio airplay, material prizes such as CDs, studio recording time, studio mixing time, studio mastering time, admission to concerts or events.

 

Notes:

This contest does not have genre sub-categories for a specific reason: the purpose of the contest is to encourage original music, in whatever shape or form it comes.  Likewise, all judging will be done solely on merit, based on the opinion and discernment of the judges, and not according to any pre-defined set of rules, regulations, or expectations.

This contest is not officially affiliated with the Contemporary A Cappella Society.
